However, it was with great dismay that I saw many students fail today's mid-course assessment for Power Searching with Google. Students were able to practice the test ahead of time, use their notes, and even retake the test in class. Yet, far too many failed. When students are able to go through lessons at their own pace, stop and repeat sections, practice the activities as much as needed, and when they are able to practice the test ahead of time, as well as use their notes there should be no reason that students fail.
Because students had so many advantages going in to this test, there will be no further retakes. The lesson you need to take away from this is - DON"T TAKE SHORTCUTS. Many students (despite repeated warnings) did not take notes or preview the test (which probably explains their grades). Next time, pay closer attention, take notes, do the practice tests, and come prepared. Some of you who did very poorly will be assigned to come in and review the coursework and retake the test. Unfortunately, I will be unable to use the score to improve your grade. My hope is that you will use this experience to make positive changes in your learning and study habits.
All students must obtain a notebook, or a section in their binder, specifically dedicated to Computers. It will be required that all students take Cornell style notes on all videos and instruction in this class. I want to see all of you succeed. You can do it! Make the effort!
