Thank you for making this year my best year teaching ever! As a whole, you are the most phenomenal group of students I have ever had the privilege to teach. Thank you for your enthusiasm, creativity, and work ethic. I have constantly admired your creative ability to take the tools and instruction I have provided and make them into something even greater than I envisioned. The goals and standards I set for this class were high, yet you continued to reach for them - and you exceeded them on many occasions. When you began to communicate and cooperate across classrooms on the CST website project, I was so proud. The zoo website is a success thanks to your hard work and creativity. I am intensely proud of all you have accomplished and have bragged on you to teachers across California and around the world on many occasions telling about the great work you do, and am looking forward to the day when the Fresno Zoo links their page to ours.
Remember, self-esteem comes from within based on your own knowledge of your accomplishments and the quality of the effort you put into your work. You know when you give a task your best efforts, and when you do there is always a deep sense of satisfaction and reward. No one ever really needs to tell you when you have done a great job, you know it already. (Of course, its always nice to hear and that's why I am writing this post.) This summer take the time to look back over all you have accomplished this year and be proud (that's why you have a digital portfolio). Carry that knowledge with you into 8th Grade and do even greater things there.
Thank you for your contributions to the class and your honest feedback. While the work was often hard, the tools and methods unfamiliar, and not all of you saw the value in everything we did, I can tell you that it will benefit you down the road. You are better prepared for 21st Century learning than any other middle or even high school out there - in fact, far better than many adults and teachers (don't tell anyone I said that). When I showed your work to students in the Masters in Instructional Science & Technology program at CSU Monterey Bay, they said that you were getting a better education than they were. Keep using these tools as you continue your education. I look forward to seeing you around campus next year and expect great things from you. Have a great summer, I will genuinely miss seeing all of you every day!
